Vancouver advises TransLink on the Canada Line rapid transit project

April 12, 2019

Client: TransLink

Our Vancouver office is advising TransLink on significant capacity increases on the existing Canada Line (P3), including procurement of additional rolling stock, station and system upgrades. Connecting Vancouver, Richmond and the Vancouver International Airport, the Canada Line consists of 19.5km of track, 16 stations, two bridges and nine kilometres of tunnel.

We acted for the special purpose public entity set up to procure and supervise construction of the project on behalf of multiple government stakeholders (federal, provincial, two municipal governments, and the regional airport and transit authorities).  We continue to act as counsel to TransLink, the regional transit authority, in connection with the P3 now that the line is in service.  Our current mandates with TransLink on the Canada Line project include:

a) improvements to allow for a major increase in passenger capacity, including the procurement of new rail cars and expansion of the Operations and Maintenance Centre; and

b) enabling works to allow for integration of the Canada Line with the new Broadway Subway which will intersect at a major underground station.

The team is led by Jay LeMoine and Greg Lewis and includes Keith Bustard, Ajit Dhillon, Jenya Hammond, and Matt Mulligan.
